Things To Do After The Closing

While some of us have already done some of the things listed below before closing, the following list can be a checklist or a beginning for you.Purchase a sturdy file folder for all of the paperwork regarding the sale and closing documents for safe keeping.

Go to the post office to notify them of your new address and to pick up a supply of change of address cards.

Notify the following of your change of address and/or phone number or if you intend to cancel your association with them:

• Place of employment
• Utility company that supply gas, electric, oil or propane
• Phone, cable, internet services
• Medical doctors, dentists and medical facilities
• Schools and child care
• Local newspapers and periodicals
• Financial institutions
• Credit card companies
• Contracted lawn or snow removal services
• Organizations you belong to that send newsletters, etc.
• Auto and health insurance companies
• Trash removal service

Most buyers will have already hired a moving company before the closing. If you don't plan on moving soon after the closing, call several moving companies for availability on a certain date and estimate of cost. Keep in mind that first and end of the month days could get booked very quickly.

After the closing you will have many jobs to do. Using the above checklist will save you some time and help you to not forget anyone. Use the extra time to relax and enjoy your new surroundings.
